I really have to gush about the DFAM with this one. For all of it's shortcomings, I feel like I can ask it to do anything and it'll manage to pull it off. Whether you want a tight hihat loop, a gnarly bassline, electrical background noise, or (apparently) ACID! I love modules and hardware that have a well-defined interface - something sturdy enough to make things quick and easy for you, but flexible enough to bend into whatever shape you need. The DFAM definitely fits this bill - you can off to the races really quickly with it.
In this patch, I send the DFAM's pitch out to Qu-bit Scanned, and used it as the main oscillator. Scanned has a kind of croakiness to it, which I find reminiscent of a 303, so it felt natural to crank the resonance a bit and get this weird, mutated acid line going. I patched Scanned and DFAM's two oscillators out into Xaoc Praga, which is a CVable mixer, and CVed the level of DFAM's oscillators - this brought their FM-y and pitch enveloped weirdness in and out of the fold as the track progresses. I patched all of this into DFAM's external input, overriding its internal mixer. All of this then goes into Data Bender and Desmodus Versio for an extra bit of weirdness and space.
Further patch notes:
- Elektron Machinedrum on the beat.
- WMD percussion modules, sequenced by Zularic Repetitor, into Clouds (Supercell).
- Qu-Bit Surface, sequenced by Meadowphysics (quantized to phrygian), into Magneto for a weird pad that comes and goes. All of this put into Hologram Microcosm (Haze mode) for further space.
